Under-20 World Cup to Boost Tourism in Turkey

With the Brazilian property market still trailblazing ahead and looking likely to benefit even more from the football World Cup being held in the country next year, some analysts are claiming that Turkey will have a similar boost in the coming months.

Akdeniz University Stadium in Antalya, the largest tourist resort in the country, will be the location for the U20 World Cup 2013 and is expected to see a significant boost to tourism from a wider selection of nationals than might usually visit Turkey.

It is the first time a FIFA competition has been hosted in the country and, although it is nowhere near as newsworthy as the main event held in the following year, the tournament is still a prestigious one in the global footballing calendar.

Julian Walker, director at Turkish property specialist Spot Blue, said: "This is a landmark event for Turkey drawing prominent names in English and world football. It's part of Turkey's snowballing status as a world-class sports destination and complements the hosting of its first European Tour Golf Open in Belek in November.”

The successful completion of the competition is also important when it comes to Turkey’s ambitions to hold the 2020 Olympics in Istanbul.

“So much positive global exposure for the country can only be a good thing for the country's property market," Walker continued.

“Overseas purchasers wise enough to have invested in Turkey during its early noughties boom are currently reaping buoying resale rewards from the Turkish home market which has jolted into action on the back of plummeting mortgage interest rates.”

Investors have been watching the development of sporting facilities in Turkey for a while now, as the government continues deliberate moves to establish the country as a destination for golfing enthusiasts in the summer and skiing fans in the winter.

If you want to send money from UK to Turkey, think carefully about how you will move funds there. Specialist currency dealers will usually offer far better exchange rates than the banks.
