UK expats have no regrets about moving abroad

The majority of expats who left the UK for a new life overseas did not regret their decision, according to a new survey.

Research by NatWest bank found that a staggering 72% of expats believe their quality of life in their new country has not been reduced, despite a rise in living costs for some.

The fifth annual International Personal Banking Quality of Life Index found that these individuals are still living their relocation dream.

NatWest head of International Personal Banking, Dave Isley said in a statement:

“The global financial crisis has failed to dampen the spirits of expats who seem to have adopted the 'keep calm, carry on' philosophy."

"The fact that fewer expats say they will return to the UK in the future, compared to five years ago, proves that they are certainly living their dreams which are driven by factors such as the quality of life abroad or improvements in financial status."

Expats living in China, the UAE, Hong Kong and Singapore reported that their financial positions have dramatically improved since their move abroad.

Those living in Western Europe, South Africa and the US were not as positive about the change in their financial circumstances, saying this area had only 'improved moderately'.

The Index found that Canada was the most popular location for Brits living abroad. The country’s natural beauty, multicultural society, health care service and safety made it the top destination of choice for UK expats.

Over 80% of Brits named Canada as the number one country for the best quality of life for the third year running.

Transferring money to Canada

If you are looking to relocate to Canada, think carefully about how you will be transferring money to the country. Foreign currency exchange rates quoted by banks are almost always lower than the exchange rates available through specialist currency dealers.

If you plan to send money overseas ensure that you compare the market to get the best deals on overseas currency.
