Swiss property market sustains growth amid tough times

The Swiss luxury property market has been cited as one of the fastest growing sectors in Europe by a leading property agency.

Analysis produced by Knight Frank suggests that nearly a quarter of the Swiss population will be millionaires by 2020. By that stage, it is predicted that only Hong Kong and Singapore will have a higher density of millionaires.

This is expected to lead to sustained growth in the luxury property market within the country. Strong economic performance and obvious lifestyle benefits are still attracting the super-rich to Switzerland.

The number of permanent foreign residents in the country is notably high, due mainly to excellent tax and education provisions. Knight Frank indicated that overseas property owners in the country increased by a total figure of 23% between 1995 and 2009.

If the trend continues, which analysts expect it to, then Switzerland could become one of the most attractive nations to make an overseas property investment in.

The benefits are obvious and manifold; it might just be a case of deciding how many chalets you wish to invest in.

Transfer Money to Switzerland

If you are looking to invest in Switzerland, think carefully about how you will be transferring money to Switzerland. Foreign currency exchange rates quoted by banks are almost always worse than the exchange rates available through specialist currency dealers.

So if you are looking to send money to Switzerland– which you will inevitably have to do if you are looking to make a property investment - be sure to compare the market before you buy your overseas currency.

Whenever you are transferring money internationally, it is important to consider the possibility of charges. Most banks will attach certain charges to transfers so keep an eye on these to make sure that you are getting the best deal possible.
