Financial advice firmly in demand

New research has found that independent financial advice is in demand by first time buyers as it hits an annual high.

Pension and retirement advice is also in demand, accounting for 39% of online searches for an independent financial advisor.

According to a professional advice website, 26% of consumers have sought out guidance on investment and savings in the last month.

The latest figures, from the Advice Drivers Report, show that first time buyers have been keen to seek out financial advice as they make up 40% of total searches within the ‘find a mortgage adviser’ service.

A similar level of demand has not been seen since April 2010.

Pension planning has proven to be very popular as 39% of consumers searched for the phrase ‘find and IFA’ in June alone.

Enquiries for independent financial advisers (IFAs) specialising in investments and savings saw a slight fall from 28% in May to 26% in June.

"On the wider financial spectrum, pensions and retirement provision continue to dominate the news agenda. “ commented Karen Barrett , Chief Executive of unbiased.

It is very important for people to engage with their financial provisions for a life after work.

It is important for people to understand that only an independent financial adviser can offer them advice on all the options available to them, helping them to make the right decision for their individual circumstances."

Transferring Money to Europe

If you are looking to invest in a European country, think carefully about how you will be transferring money to Europe. Foreign currency exchange rates quoted by banks are usually not as good as the exchange rates available through specialist currency dealers.

So if you are sending money to anywhere in Europe – which you will inevitably have to do if you are looking to make a property investment - be sure to compare the market before you buy your overseas currency.
